Commercial Manager

Hours: Full time

The Role:

As a vital member of our commercial team, you will manage and guide our contractual processes ensuring profitability and compliance. You will negotiate and draft various contracts, including Service Agreements, Frame Agreements, NDAs, Teaming Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, and Purchase Orders. Your role includes providing commercial support for bids, offering expert advice on commercial policies, and mentoring junior team members. This position offers the opportunity to shape our business engagements and drive commercial success.

Responsibilities will include:

    • Masterfully manage the administration, negotiation, and drafting of a variety of contracts such as Service Agreements, Frame Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, and Purchase Orders, directly enhancing our relationships with both customers and suppliers.
    • Ensure meticulous drafting of flow-down terms for supplier contracts, safeguarding our interests and maintaining alignment with overarching agreements.
    • Provide essential commercial and contractual support for bids, including contributing to the development of proposals for potential business and conducting comprehensive commercial reviews of the full suite of all Invitation to Tender (ITT) and proposal documents.
    • Work with the wider team to deliver profitable commercial and contractual solutions, ensuring that commercial and contractual risks are mitigated, obligations are met, and governance standards are adhered to.
    • Provide expert advice on commercial policies to Directors and non-commercial staff, underscoring the value added by these processes.
    • Mentor and develop junior members of the Commercial Team, fostering their professional growth and expertise. 

About You

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the UK Ministry of Defence and a deep understanding of contract law, intellectual property, and DEFCONs. Your proven track record in negotiating and managing national and international contracts, combined with strong relationship management, financial acumen, and exceptional communication skills, makes you a valuable team player. You are detail-oriented, proactive, and dedicated to continuous improvement, capable of working both independently and collaboratively.

Essential Attributes:

    • Possess proven experience in the commercial field, preferably within roles that mirror the responsibilities of this position.
    • Previous involvement in managing commercial activities, especially with the UK Ministry of Defence, focusing on a variety of proposals and contracts.
    • A solid understanding of contract law, intellectual property, and terms and conditions, with specific knowledge of UK Defence terms including DEFCONs.
    • Demonstrated success in supporting negotiation efforts and managing contracts effectively.
    • Significant exposure to international contracting environments, including familiarity with ITAR and EAR regulations.
    • In-depth knowledge of commercial principles, techniques, and practices, with a clear understanding of how commercial roles integrate within an organisation.
    • Skilled in managing both customer and supplier relationships, as well as engaging with stakeholders effectively.
    • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring precision in all aspects of work.
    • Financially astute, with the ability to manage budgets and understand financial implications.
    • Proactive and a dedicated team player capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a wider team structure.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including strong influencing and presentation skills, paired with outstanding organizational capabilities.
    • A can-do attitude that encourages continuous improvement and promotes a positive work environment.

Other Requirements

    • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
    • Candidates will need to undergo an internal BPSS check prior to gaining site access.
    • Candidates will also need to either hold a current SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
