Graduate Cost Engineer

    Location: Hybrid

    Hours: Full time

    The Role:

    As a graduate analyst you will be providing Cost analytical, support to help clients to  make better financial decisions. This will include working with clients to analyse the problem; capture requirements; identify potential options; assess solutions using cost-effectiveness and risk analysis methods; make recommendations. Projects will typically be in support of research and procurement activities in the defence, space and security sector but may include work in other sectors including nuclear, energy and other government departments. Graduates will be expected to work under the guidance and mentorship of more senior staff to design and apply a range of Cost estimating/forecasting/Engineering methods including quantitative and qualitative analytical and engineering approaches.


    Responsibilities will include:

        • Supporting delivery of technical consulting projects.
        • Designing and applying analysis and systems engineering approaches to tackle real world problems.
        • Developing analytical tools and techniques, including novel approaches, where required.

         
        About You

        The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

        Essential:

          • Degree in mathematics, statistics, Finance, economics ,, engineering, or other area with analytical and engineering elements.
          • An interest in applying analytical skills to solve problems, support decision making, policy development, and / or research.
          • Awareness and/or experience of applying “soft” and “hard” analytical and systems engineering technical disciplines, including some of the following:
            • Problem structuring
            • Requirements analysis
            • Process and conceptual mapping
            • Benefits analysis
            • Cost modelling and analysis
            • Risk management and analysis
            • Data analytics
            • Simulation modelling
            • Designing and facilitating workshops
            • Historical analysis
          • Strong background in MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
          • Strong team-building skills with the ability to foster a positive and motivating work environment.
          • Good interpersonal skills i.e. an ability to engage with clients via workshops.
          • Be willing to travel across UK and comfortable to work away from home at client sites for periods of time.

        Desirable:

          • An interest in the defence, energy, or security sectors.
          • Experience of authoring technical documents and giving presentations.
          • Knowledge of data science, analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches.
          • Skills in other analysis software and data analysis packages e.g. R, Python.
          • Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. Operational Research Society, – International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), International Cost Estimating Analysis Association (ICEAA), Association of Cost Engineers (ACostE)) and a desire for further professional development.

        Other Requirements

          • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
          • Candidates will need to be willing to undergo an internal baseline personnel security standard check prior to starting their employment with the company.
          • Candidates will also need to be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance (SC) check upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
