Management Accountant (part time)

Location: Portsdown Technology Park, Portsmouth

Hours: 15-22.5 / week

The Role: This is a new opportunity for a Qualified/Part Qualified Management Accountant to join our rapidly expanding team. As a key member of our finance team, you will report directly to the Finance Manager and work closely with a skilled and experienced small team. Your role will be pivotal in supporting the finance function, ensuring that our rapid expansion is matched with robust financial oversight and insight. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact within our team. You will be at the forefront of providing the financial insights and analyses that are crucial for informed decision-making, thereby contributing directly to the ongoing success and growth of our organisation.


Responsibilities will include:

    • Elevate our financial accuracy to new heights as the guardian of our Xero bookkeeping, ensuring our records are not just current but a dependable foundation for decision-making.
    • Transform data into compelling monthly financial narratives, managing crucial aspects such as journals, depreciation, and accruals to enlighten and drive strategic choices.
    • Become the heartbeat of our supplier network by ensuring every invoice transitions smoothly from approval to payment, strengthening our partnerships and securing our supply chain.
    • Your analytical prowess will guide us in sculpting our cash flow forecasts, balancing expected and actual overheads to safeguard our financial journey.
    • Exercise your strategic flair in sculpting departmental budgets, turning figures into pathways that direct our financial journey.
    • Contribute to the evolution of our information management by getting involved with our Information Management System, which is currently in the design stage. 
    • Possible future involvement in payroll activities during month-end, as part of your role.
 
Expertise Required

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles and practices, coupled with hands on experience in managing financial records and analyses:

    • Proficiency in Xero or similar accounting software, with a deep understanding of bookkeeping practices and financial reporting.
    • Advanced skills in financial analysis, including the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and narratives.
    • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, demonstrating an ability to align financial strategies with organisational goals.
    • Knowledge of payroll processes and regulations, with the flexibility to support this function as needed.
    • Strong competency in Microsoft Excel or equivalent, capable of handling complex datasets and analysis and reporting. 

About You

    • A Qualified/Part Qualified Management Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) or with relevant experience in a similar role. 
    • A strategic thinker, capable of seeing the bigger picture while ensuring the accuracy of fine details. 
    • Proactive and self motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for your work.
    • A collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with others to achieve shared goals. 
    • Adaptable and eager to take on new challenges, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

    • Additional certifications or courses related to finance, accounting, or business management. 
    • An innovative mindset, with a history of suggesting and implementing improvements to financial processes or systems. 


Other Requirements

    • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
    • Candidates must be willing to undergo an internal Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check prior to starting their employment with the company.
    • Candidates must be willing and eligible to complete a United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) security clearance application to the Security Check (SC) level upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC Clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
