Principal Project Manager

Location: Remote* / Hybrid / Office based. *With the expectation of meeting once a month.

Hours: Full time

The Role:

To assist the Head of QST in the management of the Quality, standards and training function and support the development and delivery of internal project management capability across the company’s defence and non-defence portfolios.

To manage customer frameworks and deliver end to end project management capability to internal and external facing projects of varying size and complexity to customers, account managers and capabilities leads in defence and non-defence areas.


Responsibilities will include:

    • Managing QST staff and enabling the project management capability to meet its targets through effective performance management.
    • Managing frameworks and projects predominantly within the Defence and/or non-defence environments.
    • Delivering the end-to-end management of technical projects according to best practice principles by planning, executing, and closing projects according to strict deadlines and timescales.
    • Providing effective stakeholder management, communications management, risk management, resource management, scheduling and monitoring and reporting on projects.
    • Defining project objectives and overseeing quality control throughout its lifecycle.
    • Delivering projects to time, cost budgets and quality.
    • Supporting project teams through review of plans and proposals ensuring value for money and ensuring delivery of plans is as required.
    • Building new relationships and maintaining successful working relationships with our current customers.
    • Maintaining working relationships with your project teams and third-party suppliers. 
    • Identifying and winning work in line with the company business objectives. 
    • Working organically in customer teams to deliver rapid turn-around projects, or to plan and deliver tasks.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following essential and desirable attributes:

Essential Qualifications and Experience

    • Exceptional People Management Skills with a proven track record in managing and leading teams effectively.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in fostering team growth, enhancing team performance, and facilitating a collaborative work environment.
    • Technically proficient project manager who has demonstrated success in navigating various project environments of differing scales.  The candidate should be adept at applying their project management expertise to achieve outstanding results, regardless of project complexity.
    • APM or equivalent project management qualifications with substantial knowledge of agile project management.
    • Quality Management expertise and comprehensive experience of ISO accreditation.
    • Ability to manage supply chains and customer frameworks.
    • Track record of managing a team successfully and achieving performance targets.
    • To hold a university degree in a relevant field or the equivalent in relevant experience.
    • Evidence of continuous professional development in project, quality and/or people management.
    • Advanced skills utilising IT effectively in project management including use of IMS related software and systems.
    • Leading and managing projects to time, cost and quality.
    • Significant experience in crafting compelling proposals and managing bid activities. Candidates should possess strong writing skills and the ability to coordinate bid management processes effectively, ensuring alignment with the project goals and client expectations.

Desirable

    • Be a member of an appropriate professional body (such as APM, PMI) and have a desire for further professional development.


Other Requirements

    • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
    • Candidates must be willing to undergo an internal Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check prior to starting their employment with the company.
    • Candidates must be willing and eligible to complete a United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) security clearance application to the Security Check (SC) level upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC Clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
